Despite the horse racing drama series being titled Luck, ironically, it has not been lucky with HBO network. The network cancelled the series, a move that is likely to cost them about 35 million USD. The cancelation was quite abrupt and unforeseen as the second season was already on production process.
HBO paid off the production contracts and talent like Dustin Hoffman and David Milch, the series creator. The series had modest ratings. Problem began when 3 horses died on a filming session which prompted animal activists to intervene. This loss is monetary for HBO but huge considering the loss of lives for the 3 horses.
On the other side, HBO network has Game of Thrones doing so well and taking position 3 after The Sopranos and True Blood series.
The finale is one of the hardest tests for any television series and Luck aced it!
